ConTeXt - An Alternative to LaTeX

Looks like I won't be traveling this week. That means I'm presenting to Plug this month. Here's the announcement I gave Jayce^:

Many are familiar with LaTeX, a collection of macros built on Donald Knuth's TeX. LaTeX is very popular for publishing academic papers because of the beautiful output it can create. However, creating a custom LaTeX style is a near super- human feat. ConTeXt is a less known but arguably more powerful collection of tools also built on TeX. Stuart is currently using ConTeXt to create a custom publishing framework with high quality requirements. Come and learn what ConTeXt can do for you and whether you should be using it instead of LaTeX.

UTOUG Presentation Files

I'm presenting for the Utah Oracle Users Group Training Days today. As promised, I've posted my slides and such for anyone that wants to download them.

I create the lab using our new publishing framework: Xiphias. I've pretty busy lately, so I haven't had a chance to talk about it yet, but hopefully I'll be able to next week. Basically, Xiphias is a custom publishing framework for Guru Labs and it's pretty cool.

Guru KeyCaps version 2.0

Announcing a new version of the Guru KeyCaps font! This one adds arrow keys, sysrq and numlock keys. The new version is based on Courier Dot 15 CPI with minor tweaks to improve the readability of certain characters. The example PDF has also been updated to include the new keys.

Vector Format X Logo

I recently needed a copy of the X11 logo in a vector format. Eventually I found an epsi version, but because of the way it was drawn it had some ugly artifacts at certain resolutions. So I broke down and created an svg version myself. My version isn't perfect, but I'm releasing it as public domain in the hopes it will help someone else in the future.

Guru Labs KeyCaps version 1.1

Based on feedback from the ConTeXt list, I have shifted up the baseline of the keycaps font I posted recently. The new version (download package) also includes a FontForge .sfd file for the font. The included TeX files have also been updated, and the example PDF has been re-rendered.

Update: I've uploaded a new version of the font. More info...

Free Keycaps Font

Several months ago, I tried to find a keycaps font I liked. I wasn't able to find the perfect font so I made my own. I've finally cleaned it up and packaged it for others to download and enjoy. If you're a ConTeXt user, you'll be happy to know I've also included everything necessary to use this font in ConTeXt.

I would like to thank Bitstream for releasing their Vera font family under a license that made this possible.

Update: I've uploaded an example PDF.
Second Update: I've uploaded a new version of the font. More info...
